Opening NAT on games.

I recently bought CoD Ghosts and I wanted to play online but nope  NAT is strict. I have tried Portforwarding 3074 and 25565 from youtube tutorials. I have no idea about portforwarding or opening nat types or anything, can anyone help and explain it in an idiot proof way please?:(

The NAT thing on COD has always been crap. Mine;s was fully open for both MW2 and MW3 and they said either moderate or strict.

Change your UPnP setting in your router, some games act weird with it enabled or disabled.

Everywhere on the Internet say to turn it on, which I have but I've tried it either way and it still stays strict :(

Do you have both a Modem and a Router? (rather than just a router)

I do. Modem =/= Router, but a Router can basically be a modem.

I bridged mine (where the Modem passes all the WAN settings to the Router) and that made my NAT open.

Well I'm, not sure which mine is, how can I find out?

And, see, that already tells me what I need to know. You have a router/modem combo, one box that does both.

Whereas, I have a Modem (which can be a router) AND a Router (which can act as a modem). Two different pieces of hardware that are connected by a piece of ethernet cord.

The way you said that implies you have 1. If you have 2, then one is a modem and the other is a router, and you basically have to tell the Modem to stop being a Modem and give everything it has (your ISP's settings for connecting to the internet) to the Router so that it handles everything (routing internal traffic, and handling the connection to your ISP as well).

You should probably find out if you have a modem somewhere that the router connects to.

Sorry if this is complicated, but Modems are the things that talk to your ISP and let you access the internet. Routers are the things that direct your traffic throughout your house and communicate to your Modem giving you internet access.

However, Modems usually have routing capabilities and routers usually have modem capabilities.

Look on your "device" and tell us the model number. That would be on the bar code thing on the bottom of it. For example, my router is a Linksys WRT54G and my Modem is a ZyXEL 660R from Century Link.
