Yeah. There has only been a few games I was sad I couldnt get a steady 60fps on max (Witcher 3 sadness haha)

My 4790K doesn't go much farther in that game than the 4690K did.

From what I understand at that end of gaming the GPU is gonna push more than a new CPU. Hence this thread. haha

So I have my build from last year that im wondering if its worth to upgrade my GPU or not... I have an  i5 4690k overclocked to 4.2 paired with a 970 currently that I am enjoying, but im looking to possibly grab a 1070 or maybe even a 1080 if the prices drop enough after the 1080ti drops.

Im wondering if my CPU will hold back those cards...

Your CPU will be fine if you overclock it.

DUE TO MANY REQUESTS I HAVE LEFT THIS FORUM FOREVER.

That's true for some developers, but then you have Square and Eidos who love to push the GPU to the edge of what it can do.

I got a 4690K overclocked to 4.6Ghz and a 1070. So far it's been pretty well at the more recent titles, but I run at 1440p 60fps, so games become a little less CPU-heavy. But I have run into situations where the 4690K isn't cutting it. Such as Watch Dogs 2, though that game is very heavy on any CPU.

I just started running that game at 30Hz since it's hopeless. I can't figure out what lines of code are enabling all logical threads to be used.
