Choosing a UPS

Hi Guys, im having a real headache choosing a UPS.

 

Im unsure what wattage i need? does it need to be the same or higher than the wattage of my 850watt PSU in my PC?

 

What i want it to run is my PC, Monitor, NAS and Modem in the case of a power outtage.

Can anyone help me?

are you wanting a desktop unit or one to fit in a rack mount? also how much power do you thing the devices use as in you computer you said you have an 850 watt power supply but do you use that much and your nas how much does it use give or take?

p.s most nsa brands have a list of tested/supported UPS lists so if its a branded nas start by checking there site.

you can measure the wattage you need by using one of those feedtrough wall wattage testers. plug the wallwatage tester into the wall, plug an extension box into that, plug everything you need to keep running in that and stress test the hell out of everything. add some more wattage onto that (i would say at least 50 watts to be sure but that highly depends on future expansion etc) and you should be fine.

Right ive just done a calculation using a PSU calculator and adding all the hardware i had in my PC and it came out that recommended UPS would be....

Load Wattage: 440 W
Recommended UPS rating: 850 VA
Recommended PSU Wattage: 490 W

 

Ive been looking on Amazon and found this within my price range and wonder what everyone thinks....

Your system wouldn't draw more than 400W and with some extras that unit you have there will do well especially since you plan to upgrade in the near future.
