Thermal paste quick question

I got new thermal paste but there is already some on my cpu. Do I have to remove it before I add this new one or should I just put a dot on top of it?

Remove the old stuff from the CPU first. Best thing to use is Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton bud to get it off.

Remove the old stuff with rubbing alcohol.

 

Put a dot on once you've removed the old stuff.

I think it would be better if you remove it first.

And I should also remove it off of the cooler I assume?

I use a line personally, OP implied he used a dot.  

 

Sometimes, when I'm bored, I'll draw a satanic star instead of a line. It scares the CPU into running faster.

I do that, but then I cover the CPU in bacon, as a reward for running faster.
