Ok, every night my phone will slip off my bed and onto the floor about a 2 foot drop, last night, it fell and I picked it up this morning and this happened

My theory is that the internal display / digitizer is broken, the phone is still operational if you know all the menus, placement etc. No cracks on it

HTC Desire 816

Nothing has ever been wrong with this phone structurally, cosmetically, software, hardware, except this now. Link to a video?

Most importantly, can I get it back to working condition?

On eBay, $37 Canadian plus $4 shipping for the part. And then probably like $50-100 for the install depending on where you take it.

Do you think there is an ifixit kit that will work with it under $30 + $16 for http://www.repairpartsplus.com/Replacement-Glass-Digitizer-for-HTC-Desire-816-p/GPH14303.htm?gclid=Cj0KEQiA5IHEBRCLr_PZvq2_6qcBEiQAL4cQ083K5pUogCIxpRnqJmvWO1pF23PC_AFBmpLWtEfuIl4aAklN8P8HAQ#Pop1

Yeah. Couple things to keep in mind:

•That looks like it's in US dollars

•That only includes the digitizer so if you break your glass taking it off of the current digitizer you're screwed.

•Doesn't include adhesive so you'd need some of your own.

Go down, there is an adhesive kit for $9

And im in the southern US. I guess you live in canada? How is it up there? I heard there are polar bears that pee maple syrup and have chain saw arms. xD

My point was more that your $16 USD is basically the same price as my $37 CAD option, which includes the screen and digitizer as a single preassembled unit xP

OH. I thought that 1 CAD was like 90 USD cents.

Also, on an unrelated note, this phone was used by my mom for a year before she gave it to me so she can have a G4, I have had it for about 2 months, and she loved to play Hit It Rich on here, and even playing that game for 2 hours on a brand new G4, it over heated and went from 90% to 40%. My theory is that it has malware. My brother also has a Desire 816 that my dad used before his G4 for the same amount of time and my brother does even more intensive things but it doesnt over heat.

Mine, if charged for more than an hour after 100% will overheat a bit to where it is hot which is usually when I am sleeping. Or I can play Clash Royale for 30 minutes and it will get so fucking hot. My brother's doesnt doing the exact same and even more intense, so do you think that that disgusting casino game had malware/

Zynga is a company that takes advantage of weak willed individuals with in-app purchases and they farm personal data, but I've never heard of them embedding anything outright malicious in their apps.

I highly doubt a G4 running hot is due to malware. It's a device known to run hot under moderate loads. Does she have the brightness of her screen turned up? Wifi on? Bluetooth? All of these things will draw substantially more power when the screen is on, and heat the device up substantially more.

As far as differences between the two similar devices it's more likely either hardware differences (bad chip, bad battery, poor thermal material, ect.) or environmental (if she smoke around it, took it in the bathroom while she showered, etc.)

Ok, in my last thread I explained what happened. Internal Display broke on my Desire 816 and nothing else, now the question is, will this work with the Adhesive and kits included?

Well, she smokes, takes it in the bathroom (not in the shower) but so did my dad and it has NO problems with it what so ever and his fell alot being a delivery driver, got cornmeal in it every day making pizzas, so what is the deal? She never has Bluetooth on, she keeps it at %20 brightness, and basically all settings the same, yet the only difference between her usage of her phone and my dad's usage is that she will charge it 24/7 while at work, in the car, sleeping, watching TV, all that and that she plays Hit It Rich. And the difference is that my dad's battery lasts longer (which she also broke my laptop battery by charging it 2 weeks straight with no usage) and his NEVER over heats. And that has been true across their Samsung Infuses, iPhone 4's, D816's, and G4's. Hers always has that wrong with it.

Also on a side note the thing that makes the last story even stupider is that her hotel gave her a Thinkpad T440 and she decided to take my personal laptop.

That's likely her problem right there. Does she use good quality chargers or cheepo ones? Cheap chargers typically don't have a very stable 5v voltage and the jitter in voltage can damage your device. It's one of the same reasons you shouldn't cheap out on replacement laptop power adapters.

She uses the default USB to Micro USB G4 and D816 chargers.

My real question here, is that in the photo at the start of the thread can you identify the problem? Internal display crack? Digitizer broken?

As far as I know, on modern capacitive screens, the digitizer is fused with the display. It's not like in old resistive touchscreens where it the screen and digitizer were often separate.
