second router as a repeater using powerline adapter

matty87

hey guys im having some trouble configuring my second router to act as a repeater for use in my bedroom where wifi signal is very poor.

i have a powerline adapter kit being used, one adapter plugged downstairs connecting to the main router and the other plugged into the router upstairs to act as a wifi repeater.my pc,xbox and tv all have wifi and would like to be able to connect everything to the router in my bedroom as the one downstairs is just to far away.i could buy a wifi extender but id rather not spend any money if i dont have to.any help would be greatly appreciated.

upstairs router model - HG533

downstairs model - HG633

You already have a powerline adapter, doesn't that work as a repeater as well?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

the adapter works well when plugged into the pc via ethernet without the second router, but i need a strong wifi signal for all my devices not just the pc.which is why i need the second router to enable a better wifi signal.its driving me nuts trying to figure it out.lol

If you've got a power line adaptor, make sure that is it plugged DIRECTLY into the wall, avoiding plugging it into extension cables with surge protection etc. Within the upstairs "router's" web panel, disable dhcp, set up your SSID name and password for wireless. Off you go.

Quote me if you need a hand with finding the web panel.

Ha, knew it was a talktalk router as soon as I saw the HG533 etc... I'm not positive, but can't remember them having the ability to just be AP/modem etc at all. I have one sitting in my cupboard that I hardly ever used, if I have time tomorrow I'll have a look for you. Until then, someone else might know maybe.
