So, it's now 7 months ago that I built my very first watercooling loop.

Everything went great, no leaks or anything.

A few days ago I noticed that my water was turning grey/black. So I look at my tubes, and my blocks. And I see something green in there. At first I think its algae, and I take it apart to clean it.

That's when I notice that its not algae, but rather what appears to be corrosion on the CPU block.

What can be done about this? Do I need a nickel block? It was way worse, but I washed it off to get a better view.

That looks like potential oxidization or gunk from tubing deteotriation, potentially plasticizer. It's fairly common for bare copper block and all tubing will show some kinds of gunking or degrading as it ages. You can however very easily clean it off with a fully saturated salt and vinegar solution, just don't soak it for perlinged periods of time as it will etch or even oxidize if left too long.

Oh ! did you clean the rads and WB before assembly, cause there could be some sort of mineral manufacturing residue left on em, so i guess just flush it nice and well, refill and it should be fine.

Yeah, I followed JayzTwoCents video on the subject for my first build. Flushed the rad for a while.

In any case, I got some cleaning fluid which was mixed with distilled water and run that for an hour or so.
