let me first explain the network setup i have:

signal comes from somewhere goes into a modem, then to a router and from the router it goes up 2 stories to a switch and from the switch to my pc.

yesterday evening i hijacked my little brothers static ip address, just because i felt like he didn't need it and i needed it more then him, so i took it and rebooted the router, went downstairs and watched some tv.

nothing seemed wrong till after lunch today, the router suddenly wouldn't let people connect via wifi (dhcp was still enabled) and when i rebooted everything (modem+router because that's how everything normally gets fixed) even the cabeled connection(to the switch) stopped working, but when i connected my laptop directly to the router(with cable of course) i could acces the internet and config. a lot of reboots later it still wouldn't work. so i took out the cable that led to the switch and put it into the modem and boom, everything works again. the speed even went up by ~10mbps

the thing is, i think it is related to me hijacking my little brothers IP, but i have no clue how it coulb be related.

i want to understad what the problem was so if anyone knows something please tell me!

(if you want me to show pictures of the router interface, i can't because i'm not connected to it anymore)
