Hi,

I am about to buy a motherboard that says it supports 3-way SLI... I have 2x GTX 690 which is a dual GPU so effectively 4 GPUs will they be supported?

Thanks,

Shane.

Yes, if I remember correctly, it's been so long since the last time a dual GPU card was targeted at gamers.

Of course you need a pretty beefy PSU

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

It depends, if your motherboard see it as two GPUs. And the SLI part of one Dual-Gpu is done by the GPU itself it should work. If the motherboard sees it as four independent GPU no it won't work.

Here's to the crazy ones...

Yes, the dual GPU cards will work just fine.

But to confirm that we need the Motherboards.

It'll work. It's no different than putting the single 690 into a motherboard that doesn't support SLI. The dual-GPU cards are designed for people who want to cram more power into a smaller form factor.

Just now, Wolther said:

might be wrong- but I don't think so. Unless the manufacturer is referring to the 3 gpu slots only. But I think dual gpus are already in sli. So effectively two of them would be 4 way?

Id do more research on your own while taking into account the replies here

It's functionally four-way, but the communication is done between the GPUs on the boards, and a single SLI finger.

Thanks for the help guys! I will probably have to make a new thread but I have another question about the motherboard and CPU... I have an i7 5930K CPU and I know this motherboard supports 128GB of DDR4 RAM but the Intel website says my CPU only supports 64GB of DDR4 RAM... Is 128GB compatible?

In order to use 128GB of RAM, you would need a better CPU.

Well, and I can justify them as working, as even on my Non-SLI workstation motherboard (which REALLY DOESNT support SLI, as Nvidia makes companies pay extra for that functionality), my dual GPU card does SLI properly.

How do all 3 run together ?
