My grandmother told me today that the computer I built to her about two years ago has randomly started freezing. Nothing works (ctrl+alt+del, and can't click anything) but mouse pointer moves. Does someone know what could cause this, because I scanned ssd for errors and there were none. I also checked cpu temp and it were fine. I tried to google this issue but anything I found didn't cause the issue.

Thanks if someone can help and sorry for my terrible english :)

Hi LTSU,

Have you done a Virus and Malware scan on the machine?

If you have done so the next step would be to make a image of the current system, backup and important information and do a fresh install.
Reason i state may a image of the system is so you can revert it back to how it was if the re-install of windows doesn't do anything.

If you are unsure on how to my a image. Have a look at imagex or dism

I forgot to mention that I did virus scan and it found nothing. I guess I'll have to reinstall the windows.. thanks for the response

It could be due to one of your components maxing out or overheating and it may be both.

Oh yeah i completely forgot about that. Make sure you have gotten out as much dust etc in the machine especially on the CPU.
Do not use a vacuum cleaner as they can produce static.

Hes completely right, make sure to use an air duster or if your going to use something else remove anything you will damage so take the fans off and if the case is dusty take ALL the components out before making a big mistake.

I actually cleaned the computer couple of months ago so it shouldn't be too dusty... and all the temps looked fine... ssd at ~31°C and cpu ~60°C when running prime95

yeah those temps look alright to me. I would say you may be up for a re-install. Definitely take the time to make a system image or backup. Last thing you want to do is wipe everything and find it made no difference and have to find all your data again. Been in the boat before :P

Does your GPU have enough VRAM to support everything happening on the screen (s) at the same time and or is the GPU overheating you didn't say you checked that.

The computer uses integrated graphics of the cpu so that's why I didn't check that. Also I think there sould be enough ram deticated to that sense the computer worked just fine for almost two years

Though LTSU didn't state what the computer is being used for as such. The chances of this causing the machine to lock up i would imagine is slim.
I say this as i have never come into an issue where this has happened in the 10+ years i have been working with computers :)

VRAM and RAM are different things RAM is where your cpu or apu stores your computing data VRAM is where the image thats being rendered or sent out is stored.

Whats your processor?

I know and what I ment with that is I've allocated 1gb of ram for the integrated graphics of the cpu in bios. The cpu is i5 4460
