my monitor wont get brighter?

i have a samsung syncmaster b2330 and my brightness wont go any higher or any lower. i have it connected to my r7 250 through a dvi connector. when i go into the settings onto my monitor it will let me change my brightness but it wont actually change it. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that's an older monitor and was CFL backlit.  I could be wrong, though.  If it is CFL, it is possible the backlight is going out.  Are you able to take a picture of it while it is on?  if the light is uniform in brightness, there might be another issue.  I've just seen these syncmasters CFLs go out on a regular basis after 2-3 years.
