Just wanted to know what temperatures everyone's getting that bought one of the new kabylake chips are. Right now at idle I'm at 45-50 C @ 4.8ghz but when i load cinebench i get to about 65-70 degrees. Is this just a hot chip? The clock is stable and runs fine but this is the first time overclocking a cpu so i don't know if this is normal or not for this generation of chips.

1.35v That's what it moved to after switching to xmp then to manual voltage. Is that too high? I haven't touched it

try and lower to 1.30v, see what the highest clock speed you can get from that is.

Also use Aida64/prime95 for stress testing.

Looks like the temperatures are more stable and not jumping around as much. The highest i was able to get was 4.8. When i went to 4.9 it was stable for the first test. The second and third started to stutter and the fourth i got a crash.

Kabylake is a hot chip in general. A lot hotter than Skylake. From various forums, it seems that everyone is getting high temps. Whether this was intended or just poor design by Intel, I don't know.

But 45-50 degrees on idle at only 4.8Ghz is a little high. What are you using for your CPU cooler?

Have you tried reseating your cooler?

No but i've been reading around and alot of people are having the same problem. Some hitting 60c at idle with air coolers.

I can see intel doing a recall for some of their chips because this is fucking ridiculous really. At one point I was hitting 80+ on cinebench after running multiple times

More than likely they'll just release a new chip and go "we fixed it guys thank god for us" like they did with the 4770k.

I doubt it. We will probably have to wait for Cannonlake lol.

Also remember that OC3D found in the review process that a single BIOS update dropped their 7700k by 8 degrees, the BIOS update was the only change made to the system and settings. Kaby Lake is brand new and improvements will be made via BIOS updates.

I spend too much on my PC. Then I spend even more on my Sim Rig. Damn, this stuff's expensive.
