New ISP Static setup

Go to solution Solved by Err0r_Head,

i fixed everything, the server firewall was blocking the 11 PC workstations client program, once i downed the firewall everything worked perfect, called the program provider and opened what i needed to on the server, setup a router and put it in a 192.168.1.1 gateway formation, then put each pc connecting to the server and internet on a static ip with the dns to the same gateway 1.1 ip. everything is peachy, thanks for everyone's help!

Just switched ISP providers, my old ISP conformed to the network settings I had setup on my file server 192.168.1.253 static IP,  255.255.255.0 sub net and 192.168.1.1 gateway, now with the new ISP they want me to conform to the static IP they provided.

My question is do I have to setup a new network on the server or can i just reconfigure the IPV4 settings and setup all 11 workstations with the same new sub net/gateway provided by the ISP and give new IP addresses.

my server doesn't have DHCP setup to just use automatic its all static.

It shouldn't matter waht the ISP does, this will be for your internal network right?

So, if the ISP router has a different LAN address, just change it eg

Device Name

LAN TCP/IP Setup

IP Address ...
IP Subnet Mask ...
RIP Direction
RIP Version

Use Router as DHCP Server
Single/Start IP Address ...
Finish IP Address ...

Set what you want for the router IP address, so you can just change it to what you had before, if needed change the DHCP server to a different range in compliance with your ststic addresses too.

Oh, sorry forgot this... can't edit above.

When the ISP want you to have a static IP address, they mean external WAN address, not your internal network addresses... they ahve no control over your internal network.

the problem is the isp is using a gateway so the router is locked to their settings, i figured out how to run the server acrossed the 11 pcs and then setup an second network on the same nic with the internet, but im thinking it can all be done as one subnet and gateway.

Every network and thus every ISP must have a gateway if they want to route traffic... so saying "the isp is using a gateway..." doesn't clarify anything at all.

I don't know what you mean by "run the server acrossed the 11pcs"

What is wrong with just changing your server's IP address to match the new subnet?

Just go into your new ISP router and change the IP address of the router to what you were using before.

eg old router 192.168.1.1

new ISP router  10.53.2.2. or whatever... go into the routers setup config on your browser and look for the setup page, then it should be LAN setup. Change the IP address to the same as your old one as above in the example. That way you don't have to chnage your servers and other equipments IP addresses as they still conform to that subnet... and anything using DHCP on the new router obviously gets a new address. If you need some addresses reserved chnage the range that DHCP uses, eg instead of it being 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254, chnage it so that some addresses aren't given out by the server so you can use more static addresses without conflicts. so change it to soemthing like 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200, then you have addresses from 201-254 spare for using static without fear of dhcp server giving out same to other devices.

Hope that makes sense?

[edit] and don't forget to make a backup of your config file just in case of problems, then it's easier to just import that setting back ... and change the default admin password etc, that catches so many people out.
