Liquid nitrogen is impractical for every day use because you need a constant supply otherwise it'll burn off or you'll need to have some expensive refrigeration equipment to keep it liquid. At which point you may as well just use the refrigerator.

I know you're only trying to make a point but using a fridge to cool a PC doesn't work :D

"The refrigerator" referring to the refrigeration unit to make liquid nitrogen. They have those though, they're called phase-change coolers (okay, they won't bring the temps down that low, but they are capable of sub-zero Fahrenheit cooling)

Yeah I know I was just trying to make a joke :P

I still need to try it with a walk in fridge since those have huge coolers

The thing with a fridge is its cooling capacity. Fridges are designed to remove heat from a system that's not actively generating heat. A typical computer can output 300W of heat, so if your fridge can't exchange at that rate or faster, it's not going to work.

Well we will see. Walk ins are made to hande the constant load of a 6 foot door being opened and left open for a few minutes.

I still want to try it

But they also have those plastic thingies to keep the air from exchanging as much as possible. Usually

It just takes proper sizing/selection of components and refrigerant types to get a well functioning phase change system.  Unfortunately I haven't completed anything for PC's yet but it's definitely in the works for me.  I'm an HVAC tech/installer professionally so I've got the licensing/tools to do it, its just a matter of time

I'm slowly working with my brother on engineering a controller for a used geothermal unit I got from work.  Ideally I'd like to use it as a water chiller but direct phase isn't completely out of the question.

Condensation is the major issue though.  I plan on making  a "chillbox" a sealed case that will circulate cold air and probably utilize a slow nitrogen purge as well.  I'll link some builds later
