Hello, I'm slowly building my dream machine ( this is it example https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/hRTNBP ) pretty much that but x299 and the next titan xp. I have everything down and know what I want but I know I need a UPS because I've had power outages more and more recently. now the PSU i'm getting is between the corsair 1500w or evga 1600w one both ways I'm lost here, for a UPS do I need to get one over 1600w? many questions so I'm just going to list them here with some fancy numbers.

1. do I need a UPS the same or greater watts then the PSU in my computer

-if yes > what UPS exists 1600w or more? (price under $1000 CAD)

-if no > explain with detail please

2. What makes a UPS good?

3. Best recommendation for UPS?

4. Thank you :)

EDIT --

Please I don't need help in picking parts for the PC, Thank you for your input but I'd like to focus on the main question here about UPS thank you

That's a waste of money, you would only need about 1000W or less for X299 and a next titan XP.

Things are getting way more efficient.

I don't care for price, this is my dream machine, plus I'm doing at least 2 gpus and everything will be on bios's I make to overvolt and overclock very heavy

1000W would still be more than enough...

If you want to go overkill and just waste money for no reason then buy a $200 000 blade server from dell.

thats fine if you say its enough, I dont want enough as I know it isnt for what I need, its not a waste of money as time passes the power supply will be moved down to another server of mine where it will barely be enough. I'm sorry if I sound mean here but I'm not looking for judgement on my system more of help on getting a good UPS.

EDIT-

my current 1000w power supply is already pushed to the edge with my current 2x 970, 4770 system. I have a wall adapter to tell me how much power I pull from the wall and I already hit 910-ish on full load

Well since you don't understand what "enough" means, then just get this:

That build shouldn't be putting 910 watts... is the adapter accurate, like have you tested on other systems or even appliances?

Oh, so now it "doesn't make sense" for your build?

I thought you didn't want to get a 1000W PSU even though it makes sense for your build?

It sounds to me like you honestly don't know how much power your PC will actually use...

1000W will be MORE than enough. A 1600W PSU is a waste. Having a PSU 2x as powerful as you need is very 2011.

Yeah, that's like a 500W PC, either he thinks PSU calculators are correct or he has no idea how much power PCs actually consume.

ok listen man, I can tell you I know the power I draw and I know what I need for both efficiently curves on the PSU and total amount.  yes, the adapter is correct, everything is right I'm using custom bios's on both GPU's I pull a lot of power. I do notice looking at your comments on other posts (listed on your profile) you tell people a lot that they dont need something because of money. lets for your sake just pretend everything is right and focus on my question to start about a ups. ;)

So you don't care about money? Just get that big one then.

Why do you even bother asking?

Your build does not draw 910W.

before I made my own bios to pull a little more power, I used to use http://www.overclock.net/t/1544574/gigabyte-gtx-9xx-h2o-air-bios-tweaking and even there (its almost correct) they list 1000w for this bios's which is slightly above for his but still shows my point from other angles https://gyazo.com/d673161e2a1fc719f4417766dbb5e44b

Well clearly there is stuff that you need to learn about power consumption if you think your PX draws 910W and you think a X299 and two titan XPs require 1600W...

If you start by explaining why you think a 2x 970 + 4770 PC uses 910W then I could correct you.

Also, Cyperpower PFC LCD UPSes are good because they are pure sine wave.

It's not even close to that.

PSU requirements are always exaggerated by about 2x because of the large amount of crappy chinese PSUs that would explode if you actually tried to pull their rated wattage. Chinese PSUs are rated by max wattage, so a 1000W rated PSU might only be able to do 500W continuous.

This is why every PSU calculator or recommendation is always wrong.

The PROPER way to calculate how much power your PC is using is to take a wattage meter and plug your PC into it, then calculate the efficiency, then multiply the wattage reading by 1/efficiency to get the actual amount of power being used.

You can also go on google and find power consumption tests of PCs with similar specs, 2x GPUs + i7, and that gives a decent estimate.

Your PC, with the overclocks and everything, should be using about 500-600W MAX under load.

I have hardware to measure the power draw, I don't know how much power I will draw from the new stuff as nothing official is out about x299 and the next titan but I have uses for the power supply after and there both very well rated PSU's for clean power by johhny guru (with the corsair being the first power supply he gave a 10/10)

I've heard alot about having a pure sine wave being important but would I need a ups over 1600w on a system to pull 1600w. or is a lower end one okay but just wont last as long

Cyberpower PFC LCD comes in up to 2200VA or around there, that should be good. Always best to have more than your PSU.
