Hello,

I recently replaced my 500GB HDD with a 525GB Crucial MX300 and cloned the content using Clonezilla.

However, in my day and half of use, since installing the SSD, I have discovered that, after around an hour of use, suddenly Windows explorer appears not responding, and tabs on google chrome stop loading/do not open.

Could the issue lie in the cloning of the Hard Drive, or could it potentially be the setting of the SSD in my Laptop's BIOS.

Specs:

Dell Inspiron 3542

4th Gen Intel i3 4005U (Stock Config)

4GB DDR3L Ram (Stock)

Windows 10 Home 64Bit.

Thanks in Advance!

Reinstall window is best option, i had my ssd clone back while back, had issues with programs and crashes. I reinstall and it fixes my problem.

I read that uninstalling the cloning software can fix the issue depending on how you did it, But thats what i did was a fresh install when i got the same exact thing. Fresh installs are always good to clean up files that arnt being used or that are left over. Pain in the ass yes but worth it in the end.

You know what take a hammer, no its not to destroy your computer, go to microsoft and ask them. Do you even windows bro? and hit every single one of them with the hammer in the head problem solved.

But really now you probably will need to reinstall windows completely.

That sounds far too generic to be able to point it somewhere specifically. Have you looked at your event logs to see what's causing it?

When you cloned your older drive, did you clone all partitions instead of just C: ? Like the MBR/UEFI or recovery partitions. But then again, if you messed that one up you would probably not be able to boot in the first place, idk.

On a side note, most people recommend against cloning to an SSD drive but I never heard any argument that makes sense other than maybe "having that fresh feel of starting over". It won't really save write cycles because you'd fill it up with the stuff you need anyway, it will only be a slower process.

I'd say troubleshoot the logs first. If that doesn't work start checking the drive, it may be faulty.

EDIT - Worth a try: Search for "Defragment and Optimize Drives" and make sure your drive is being seen as a "Solid State Drive", then click "Optimize". There is an off-chance that Windows still thinks you are using a Hard Drive.

I've got an OEM copy of Windows 10, so I would be able to reinstall using the Dell Recovery media, correct? or Would I have to purchase a new licence?

No. The key is linked with your hardware ID, as long as you don't change motherboard you should be fine.
