Three days ago after completing my first computer build my brother wanted to see if his old GTX 760 would work in my computer.  It worked long enough for me to open the BIOS, but then I got an "Auto-Detect Power Saving Mode" or something similar and the screen went black.  So I just chalked it up as a loss and my brother let me use a GTX 750 ti he had. It worked and I was able to install Windows, update drivers, etc. and it is still working perfectly fine.  Iʻm perfectly content with the 750 ti, but I wanted to know if there was a way to get the 760 to work again.  My brother used the 760 and got the same error as me when he tested it out two weeks ago.

From what Iʻve been reading it seems like it could be a driver issue, if this was the problem would I just have to download the drivers for the 760 and then install replace the 750 ti with 760.  Also is the performance upgrade that Iʻd be getting worth all this trouble to see if the card may or may not work.

MY SPECS:

CPU: i3 6100

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H110M-H

RAM: 8GB DDR4

GPU: ASUS GTX 750 ti

PSU: EVGA 450 B1

Sounds like one of the following:

The PCIe 6-pin or 8-pin connector may not have been plugged into the PSU

The card was improperly cooled and thermal shut down. This can be easily solved by taking the card apart and reapplying thermal paste on it.

If it were a driver issue it would not happen while on the BIOS. Don't think it is

I reapplied the thermal paste and made sure the 6-pin was plugged in and it didn't work.  Thanks for the help though.

I'm afraid you may have yourself a bad card then. :(
