Upgrade or naw

I was wondering if my current processor, the i7-965 extreme, is still capable of running now a day games on high settings at 720 or 1080. Or should I get a upgrade, if you think I should upgrade please name one under $210. Thx

It's a little old. 

However, you can upgrade to a Xeon depending on your motherboard. The LGA1366 Xeons can compete with the 5820K and is slower by just a touch.

One more thing, I just a gtx 970 8gb from a friend and do you guys think it would be bottle capped by the CPU?

Your cpu is fine. 

That being said, I have no idea how you got a hold of a 8gb model 970 without the magic of typo.
