Wait a month until the new AMD and Intel CPUs hit. Not only are they better, but it will probably drop the prices of CPUs like the i5-6400.

They were already released as of Jan 3rd, I don't see any price drops.

Ok, so sorry, it is already released. That still doesn't change the fact that old Intel CPUs could start to drop in price as they clear them out.

I wouldn't quite count on it. In the past I tried to get a CPU that was outdated by many years, but found it hard to get them that dirt cheap in terms of the high end ones. Second hand maybe. Anyway... point is that they probably have some control over the supply of even the most outdated CPU's, so I personally wouldn't expect anything beyond a modest drop in price. You didn't really think Intel would be dumb enough to let their own previous generation of chips become their greatest competition did you? Feel free to wait a bit, but don't go waiting too long.

As for the motherboard, as long as it supports the FCLGA1151 socket, and the product page mentions that your CPU is compatible with the board, then all it comes down to is price and features.
