Headset-microphone broke. Will this solution work?

Hi,

My microphone on my HyperX Cloud 2 for some reason stopped working. Therefore I went to a local computer/electronic-store for help. It turned out that the actual detachable microphone on my cloud 2 does still work, but that it's the 3.5mm plug on the earcup on the headset that doesn't work properly.

But since the the audio in my headset is just as usual and my detachable microphone still works is it correct that I'll simply be able to buy a 3.5mm extension Like this one (it's in danish), plug my microphone into the extension and the extension into my computer and then somehow detach it to my headset. Something like how this guy does.

Will this work or does the cloud 2 microphone not work like that?

I would have thought that would work, it's unlikely they'd change which pins the signal uses from the standard.
