Hello there ! I would like to know if its possible to make a bottable usb drive with windows 10, and have it locked so that wether you plug it in as normal or when you boot from it, it will require a password to be typed in.

thanks !

@givingtnt Use a program called WinToUSB.

It will make a windows iso into a windows to go environment, and it works exactly like a standard windows install, but it lives on a flash drive

I believe you can buy thumb drives from SanDisk that can have "lockers" in them. I used to have one on a small thumb drive i purchased from best buy years ago.

I don't have that

So you're basically wanting something that requires the password before anything can be loaded? If so, I'm not sure that's possible, as it requires low level support as it's not something being managed by an OS.

If it didn't need to be bootable, you can do it by encrypting the drive and requiring a password to access the data. That would be done through an application in the OS though.

EDIT: Most U/EFI firmware allows you to set low level passwords to prevent booting without it, but that's for an entire system, rather than just a drive.

or something like a boot menu, that requires a password

I mean, I could alwais create 2 partitions on the drive, one bootable and one locked by password. but idk how to lock the bootable version.
