So I have been tasked by a friend to build him a PC he is paying and I have to put it together. I have already used PCPartPicker to throw together a handful of computers, he has £1000. He does not care if the colour of the components match or if they have LED's he doesn't care.

Here are some of my builds;

Black and Red for Intel

Black and Blue for Intel

Black and White for Intel

Black and Red for AMD

He will be building it closer to April because that is when his birthday is but I have till then to plan. The links are there for either confirmation on if they are good or if something can be changed or just post your own links if you guys have ideas

Well the two most important things for build planning I can tell you is:

- If you're gonna build in April, ask then. Ask two weeks before their birthday or less.

- Don't hesitate, once you find a build that we all can agree is a good value, buy it and don't spend time worrying.

That said, it's time for me to give you a build overhaul so you have an idea of what you can get today which should be better than any of those builds.

You should aim for equal or better than what I posted there :) By April the Kaby motherboards will probably become cheap enough to go Kaby without hesitation.

Yeah it's a generation old and still the same price, I don't see a reason to get it.

so would something like this do? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/dpGBFd

You don't need to spend £86 on a cooler for a locked cpu. Just get a cheap one like a CoolerMaster Hyper Evo. I would also try and squeeze 16GB Ram and an SSD in there if you can.

Does he need a monitor as well ? or just the tower ?

That looks better. The Ram will run at 2133MHz on that motherboard as only the Z170 chipset will run faster Ram. If you come across a cheaper 2133MHz kit then you might as well swap it out.

I would also look at reviews for that SSD if you can find one as I don't know how good/bad that one is. I usually stick with Samsung or Crucial etc.

Pcpartpicker ratings are not the best thing to judge by. I would always try and look for a professional review where possible.

just skimmed some reviews they all say the same. Fast, cheap reliable but there are faster out there
