So according to this page: https://www.spotifygear.com/

The STR-DN1040 should also work, since 850 < 1040 < 1060 (at least that's my interpretation).

But it doesn't show up in the "devices list" of the Spotify app, on any device (Windows desktop, Android, etc.) :/

Um... why? :P

According to STR-DN1040 owners thread, that receiver doesn't support spotify and some reviews for the receiver say the same. Someone did manage to get it working on the owners club forum using  an IOS device and used it as a bridge for their android.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Well they list the 1060 and say "range includes 850"... what else could that mean?

from this discussion, seems like Sony didn't wanna pay royalties to Spotify for Conenct

check for a FW update  scratch that: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Spotify-Connect-where-is-it/td-p/601918/page/14

Quote

Looking at the product page for your receiver it appears Sony has not made it Spotify Connect compatible.

Hm, well that sucks :/  I mean we do have a Chromecast but this would be a better solution... oh well.

Spotify should really update their page to reflect the supported and unsupported devices list more accurately.
