So I recently switched my system to the 2500k from a qx9650, and i'm so glad I did. However, I still have a little GTX 460 in my system. Needless, to say, that and an SSD are the upgrades of 2017 for me. I thought that the AMD Fury X would be a great choice for an upgrade? It's a 1070 competitor for a solid 130 dollar less.

I have heard a lot about the Fury X having bad quality control, and XFX took it off their warranty list in 2015, so is it worth the risk?

Let me know with thoughts and suggestions below. I am looking in the 2-300 ish dollar range. If any Fury X owners could inform me on their personal experience, that would be invaluable.

Cheers!

If it's that much cheaper than the GTX 1070, then yes, it's a solid option.

But you could also consider waiting for the Vega cards, see how they shake up the market (doesn't have to be a Vega card you buy, if it makes the GTX 1070 drop in price then that could be nice too).

Fury X is a great card but only if the price is right. If it costs more than a 980Ti then it's not worh it, if it costs less then it's a good buy, if they cost the same then you need to think about which games you play most and choose accordingly.

I'd say have a look at the fury (non x) as it's even cheaper while offering just a little less than the fury X :D

Plus you can get custom PCBs and whatnot where they technically can be more reliable than fury Xs as all of em are just AMD made cards but with their sticker stuck on.

The 980ti is also worth a look ;)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

From your Build listing it looks like you have the non-X variant of the Fury. Any problems with that?

Nope, it's the best card I've ever had (I'm not talking about performance here) and in the past 2 years I owned a limited edition of the MSI GTX 970 Gaming card and an MSI R9 290X Gaming 4GB. But it's because it was made by Sapphire, it has a custom-made PCB and an excellent cooler which keeps the card very cool and very silent at the same time.

Regular air cooled Fury is built by Saphire. Within the past week, they jacked all of the Fury card variants price to 300+ and 600+ dollars. (Fury and Fury X variants respectively.)

I'm wondering if I can get that card from anyone else?

That's reassuring to hear.

Though for such GPU you need to overclock your CPU at least to 4,5GHz.

I'll do that, within the next two years I'll upgrade to a 3770k as well.
