Well they didn't cut OpenGL performance on my Mobility Radeon HD5650 by a 2 thirds.....without change to DirectX performance.

Let's just say that they're not optimizing their older customer's architectures.

I'm still using Kepler (I do plan on upgrades in the future) but I'm being treated badly as a customer who paid more or less $330 USD (2014).....

Frankly it's unacceptable. I will upgrade my GPU when I  upgrade my monitor setup.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

their drivers do what they need to do, i dont have any recent experience with AMD drivers aside from the "gaming evolved" app turning my mom's netbook into lag central, and returning after uninstalling, but i can say with confidence that i'm satisfied with my nvidia driver experience so far, and that the turd that is geforce experience is actually slowly being polished.

to be honest i find that -while the whole dropping support thing is true- i'm frankly amazed with the performance boost i got from driver updates in the first year i had my 970, and lets be honest with ourselves here, even nvidia is good at legacy support compared to some fields outside of the computer world ;)

kinda hilareous sidenote... i decided to update nvidia drivers and do my usual "before and after" benchmarks, and unigine refused to turn off vsync, because that's the kind of problems i face on a daily basis :D

anyways, aflter flipping every vsync related setting in nvidia control panel to the "off" setting i figured oout that unigine heaven's "extreme" preset somehow ignores the vsync option in hevaen, which was somehow enabled....

GG unigine, GG :P

Yes because i had this particular and non linkeable issue in my pc that i link to Nvidia drivers.

No because i personally had no issues and since i am the only user in this planet therefore drivers are flawless.

Thing is they are not THIS kind of crap. (590 burns due to an "oops" in the beta drivers)

but they are improvable.

Mostly the Geforce (crap) Experience software a.k.a telemetry center.

i'm that person that comes in a row of people who have the exact same bug with the exact same card in the exact same scenario, saying it's a perfectly reproducable issue, and break the fun saying "i cant make it reproduce for the life of me"

i've had a surprisingly low amount of issues with nvidia drivers, the issues i did have were usually more relatable to my frankenstein setup than to the drivers themselves.

People claiming that are full of it.  The reason AMD was able to maintain a better advantage with older cards seeing performance increases with driver updates was GCN, leveraging their involvement with the consoles, and the fact they did not release any new tech since 2012.  Let's see what happens with Vega.

As far as Nvidia drivers go...I've never had any issues, though it does seem they are offering hot fix updates on the regular now like AMD used to do.

NVIDIA drivers are crap, a cursory Google search will tell you. AMD drivers are crap too, as a cursory Google search will tell you. Nobody seems to complain about Intel though. Therefore, Intel's GPUs are the best GPUs.

(please note the sarcasm that cannot be transferred over the internet)

I searched for the product with no customer complaints. Got a pink cucumber that vibrates. Tasted horrible.

Now it has a customer complaint.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

well, you could see producing less new cards as a strategy to keep your older chips more relevant for longer. (for example, last gen's top chip will now be the second tier chip, etc.)

i'd almost dare to say nvidia's urge to have SO MANY new chips on such a fast dev cycle is their weakness. they dont *have* to spin a new chip for the 1060, last gen's 970 and 980 would do just fine in that performance bracket, bit worse on the power consumption side of things maybe, but you cant have everything.

--

i guess, in the end if nvidia's endless loop of fresh slicion works they'll stay on top of the marketshare, and if it proves to be more problematic than amd's honestly rather stagnant lineup (truth be told, i went shopping for AMD cards earlier today, i found a whopping number of one card that peaked my interest, whereas i had no idea where to look first on the nvidia side), we'll see amd rise again.

give it time, and the truth will arise. i'm happy with my little nvidia ecosystem (it's just eaier when all your systems have the same suite of settings), but if AMD or maybe an unexpected player can win me over, i'll gladly switch.

to be honest, i have quite the book about intel graphics on linux, from all the crap being swung both ways between amd and nvidia (seriously, it's the whole R9 390 vs gtx970 argument again, but with no measurable metrics being mentioned) i cant for the life of me get intel graphics to behave reliably under linux, and when i manage, it's with truly shockingly bad performance.
