Network switch vs Router as a switch??

iamk2

I need to get three gig connections added to my network. None of the local stores are carrying any gig switches (may carry but are out). I can go to wal mart and get a router and then use it as a switch. Since I only need to add three devices are there any negatives in doing so. Should I wait for a switch??

I can handle the settings to use the router as a switch - just was wondering if i would be slamming something on my foot (figuratively) by doing so. I guess I could better ask is a gig router used as good as a gig switch just as good  - minus one less port?

If you do decide to get the router, just make sure to put it into a bridge mode if it has one. If not, you may have some trouble connecting to the devices behind the second router from devices which aren't attached to the second router.
