So my computer that I have built in mid 2012 stopped booting sorta today.

With the graphics card in the system will post showing the windows 10 logo and then going black and nothing happening after that. Sometimes in rare occasions it will fully boot into Windows and I click on stuff but after about 1-2mins of using it the screen will freeze and go either black or white or some random color.

When I removed the graphics card I have no issues with posting and the system will boot after it realizes that there is not graphics card inside and I can use the integrated graphics just fine with no crashing.

Not sure if this is an issue with the graphics card (which is my guess) or something else. There has been high moister in my room last night and that's when the issue first came up.

I have a Gigabyte Z-77 GA-Z77X-UD5H and an MSI 7950 twin frozr

Much appreciated if someone can help me trouble shoot this

I had a similar scenario to this a few days ago, and I figured out the GPU was dead because I tried a different GPU in the system and it made it past postcode B2 (The GPU wouldn't boot the system past postcode B2)

Try these Steps to troubleshoot:

-Update BIOS

-Try a different slot of your motherboard
-Try your card in a different system and see if that system turns on

-(maybe) Another PSU

Other than that, if you can think of any other steps to take, your card is probably dead.

Hopefully these work, and if they don't then you might need to switch that card out :(

None of my other slots at 16x. And I just tried putting it in another slot and it posted and I saw an image but the card display went black after 30s

Well then it's probably not the PCIe slots, try the other steps

Bios is up to date, PSU isn't bad. I dont have a system atm to test it in that one since its my other house. So I think im going to call it dead

Alright, that kind of sucks. Just to tell you, the R9 380 is essentially a re-branded R9 280 which is also a re-branded HD 7950

Ah, Yes I have been looking at some new cards for awhile before this issue has happen. I was between the RX480 and a GTX 1060, From what benchmarks show the 1060 is better in almost everything by a little. I'm not sure how the R9 series compare to the RX series if you could clarify on that to me that would be great

get a rx 480 or gtx 1060

Forget the Rx series unless you want a Fury X

Ah okay. So its pretty much the RX 480 is kinda the best. And then the 1060 is the next close thing to a RX480 on the Nvidia side for price point?

Sure, but don't get the 3GB model as some cores are disabled from the 6GB model which doesn't make the card just half the VRAM

Yup I saw that there was a 3GB and 6GB version so I was going to get the 6GB anyways. Still seems cheaper to get a RX 480

Yeah, the RX 480 will do you fine, are you getting the 8GB model?

Yes the 8GB model. Was probably going to get an MSI Gaming X or ASUS STRIX model

So I got my card and im still having no luck with getting the system to post with the GFX card installed. I tried both PCI slots on my MOBO. The system code it puts out is 97 which seems to be an issue with other people but I still cant get it to post right.

The system still boots fine with integrated graphics.
