Disable Power Capabilities

Captain Matt

Hi all,

I think this is the best place to post this.

Would it be possible to create a program that, so long as the computer is locked, AND it's reported as stolen (to a piece of connected software - forget about connection for a second), to disable hard resetting capabilities?

This would allow a longer window of time to recover a stolen device.

Best!

-Matt

Useless in my opinion.

If I were the thief I'd just take out the harddisk and wipe it on another pc, or simply replace it with a new one if it had a password on it, defeating any software gimmicks you might come up with.

A bios password seems like the only thing that can't just be undone by ripping out the drive.

What do you mean "hard resetting"? Like physically resetting the CPU? That's not going to happen because well, that's just something physically there in hardware. Ditto with the power button, more or less.

Besides, you can just yank the power out.
