Posted December 30, 2016 Looking at a new GPU. I'm between EVGA GTX 1060 FTW+ ($300 on amazon) and the EVGA GTX 1070 SC ($424 on Newegg) or the EVGA GTX 1070 Hybrid ($450 on Newegg). Is the price of the 1070 worth it? It will be with a i5-6600K. I'm planning on leaving in my 270X for folding so the hybrid cooler could help because of spacing Breaking things 1 day at a time Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/714708-1060-vs-1070/ Share on other sites
 Posted December 30, 2016 Depends on what do you need. For 1080p@60hz 1060 is enough. Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/714708-1060-vs-1070/#findComment-9112184 Share on other sites
Posted December 30, 2016 I'd hold off, since Vega is around the corner. But the 1070 is a fair bit better than the 1060, and only worth the price tag if you game at 1440p, or have a 144hz monitor. Posted December 30, 2016 not really a competition the rx480 is better for 1080p gaming the 1070 is better for 1440p gaming ,unless you want 1080p 144hz then get a 1070. Posted December 30, 2016 For playing at 60Hz the GTX 1060 or RX 480 will do just fine. For playing at 144Hz the GTX 1070 would be much better but you may get bottlenecked in SOME games by your CPU at around 90-100FPS but in MOST games it wont be a problem. Posted December 30, 2016 I actually just upgraded to an i7 6700k and a gtx 1070 and it blows pretty much every game out of the water. 10/10 "Always forgive your enemies, but never forget their names." Games will need to be turned down on 4k no matter what GPU you go with, so I would wait for 1080ti/Vega if you plan to go that route sooner than later. How close is Vega exactly Q1 2017 I believe, no exact date. I would wait things out if you really want to go the 4k route. I just think since it's close enough to release that it would be worth waiting to see the price they announce. The 980ti came close to the Titan X in mostly everything except vRAM, which was cut in half. This rumored card supposedly comes much closer at 10gb vRAM with slightly less cores than the Titan but higher clocks.
