Hey guys,

I have an older system and I'm wondering if it is worth just upgrading the video card or should I wait to upgrade the system.

I currently have a:

-Haswell i5-4670k Oc'd to 4.3 watercooled with a H100I corsair,

- Asus Maximus Vi Gene, LGA 1150, Z87,

-EVGA GTX 770 2gb, Factor OC'd

-750w Corsair HX series gold certified PS,

-16gb of RAM DDR3  1333 G.Skill Ripjaws X series,

-Samsung 840 series 250gb sata 3  SSD

-Seagate Barracuda 2tb 7200 RPM 64mb cache drive.

I was thinking of upgrading to a GTX 1060/1070. Also just for gaming at 1080p with possible upgrading to 1440p in the short-term.

Thanks for you time and opinions.

Yeah, a GTX 770 is showing its age now, falling behind even an GTX 1050 in titles like Battlefield 1 (comparative benchmarks for several titles and cards below). Where do you live and how much can you afford to spend on an upgrade?

Everything else looks alright.

Duly noted. Fortunately for you, the cheapest 1070 in Canada is just over 500 at $514. It isn't a huge difference (I think $14 is what I spent on two meals in Toronto).

Everything else in your system is up to mark, and doesn't need to be upgraded yet.

Sounds good, the $500 budget isn't a firm set(just a estimate so i have wiggle room up).. Would you recommend any aftermarket cards or pre overclocked cards?

This card is factory overclocked. Any board partner card is 'aftermarket'; the 'original' variants are NVidia's Founders Edition cards, which are expensive and pretty terrible.

The WindForce card I linked earlier isn't the best 1080, but it is the cheapest. Here's a better much better 1080 which is only $6 more if you're willing to use a mail-in rebate.

It's expensive, but the Asus STRIX variant might be one of the best 1080s out there. The beefier cooler and better power delivery will come in handy for overclocking, if you can afford it.

Awesome!! Thanks. Does the STRIX have overclocking program or would I have to do it manually. Also, if it does not have a program is it worth getting the better fans if just ran not OC'd.
