Hey guys, Tony here

Is it a good idea to re-use my old laptop's hard drive or my new build? My old laptop has been about 7~8 years old.

As long as you can connect it to your Desktop rig go for it. It should be noted though that it's probably a low tier drive so don't expect very good speeds ;)

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

If it's a SATA interface then sure, use it. But use it as a storage drive or as an external drive, put an SSD in your new build

I'd recommend not reusing an old hard drive if it's been well used as they have a limited lifetime (long but limited and based on use) and older hard drives are more limited than newer ones and other things may have also degraded it. Especially as a main drive.
