new build, i got the i5-6600k overclocked to 4.2 ghz with the asus z170a auto-overclock 20% thing in bios, i have the 212 evo as cooler and arctic silver 5 thermal paste.

i see my max load temps are about 60 degree celsius and my idle temps are around 26 celsius, is this normal? what is the max threshold for my processor on msi-afterburner?

ambiant temps are in the 20 celsius in my room, i also get my gpu which is the xfx gtr to never go above 65 celsius in base clock with 2250 rpm fan speed set as max for optimized silence.

That sounds nice and healthy!

As a rule of thumb, you should only really get uncomfortable beyond 80 or 85 celsius under sustained load.

Why don't you push your chip further?

Sig under construction.

That is 100% fine. For CPU temps during a stress test you want it to be around 75c at max. This is the goal you should shoot for.

looks good to me. 26c idle is fantastic, mine idles at 34c at 4.2ghz xD

I idle at 50% load, so sometimes around 50 or 60C (:

My 4670k is a really terrible overclocker but I really want 4.2GHz...long story short, I settled on running it at 1.4V. I often have a couple hundred chrome tabs open as well as a couple programs that just eat CPU for no reason every now and then *coughs* iTunes Spotify *sputters*...

Sig under construction.

thanks for the replies guys, also to answer tedster, i don't OC my chip further because i am new to overclocking, this is my frrst build ever and i don't yet quite feel comfortable pushing this new shiny stuff, the auto 20% overclock on the asus z170a is fine i think, i don't think it increases the voltage on the cpu, which stays around 1.25V max in cpu-z, all while pushing me above the 4ghz. my ram is trident z 3200 mhz and it does 3300mhz on xmp 3200 profile somehow too, i dont get why but wathever xD

Alright!

Just to be sure, run yourself an FPU-only test in AIDA64 and just make sure that the chip doesn't go to any ridiculous voltages.
