Hey guys,

I want to build a new PC but I don´t know much about Mainboards so I wanted to ask if some of you can give me some good tips or even say me which motherboard I should choose.

I´m going to put a i7.-6700k in it and 2 gtx 970 with sli.AmazonListePC.jpg

get a 1070/1080 instead. the 970 isnt worth it nowadays.

and an asus z170 pro gaming will be good.

@DerBobby Welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forum! I suggest you get the cheapest Z170 motherboard with at least 10 power phases for stable overclocking. They're squarish components around the CPU and you can just count them. :)

My Daily Driver:

Acer Predator Helios 300
»« Intel Core i5-8300H »« 16GB DDR4 RAM »« NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB »« Silicon Power A60 512 GB M.2 SSD »«
Toshiba PC L200 1 TB HDD »« Microsoft Windows 10 Home »«

Like others have suggested, get a 1070/1080 instead of two 970s. You also need to put DDR4 RAM in your build, DDR3 will not work. Additionally, I'd suggest getting an EVGA 650/750 GS or G2 PSU rather than a CX750M. Corsair's lower end PSUs are a intended for entry-level builds rather than high-end ones. Plus you get a fully modular PSU rather than a semi-modular one which makes cable management easier, IMO.

As for motherboard, go with something that has the features you're looking for (WiFi, Bluetooth, lots of USB ports, USB-C, etc.) from a good brand such as MSI, ASUS or Gigabyte. Obviously they are not the only MB manufacturers that are reputable, I just listed a few to get you started.

CPU i7 6800k @ 4GHz, 1.255v

Cooler Scythe FUMA 2

Motherboard ASUS X99 ROG

RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4

GPU EVGA GTX 1070 FTW (+100MHz core, +200MHz memory)

Storage Samsung 970 EVO 1TB, 500GB WD Blue SSD, 1TB WD Blue HDD

PSU EVGA 650G2

Case Phanteks P400S TG + 3x NZXT Aer 2 RGB Fans + NZXT Hue 2

Monitors Acer CB271HU, Dell S2440L

OS Windows 10

Dont bother with SLI, get the best single card you can afford instead. Which at that price is a 1070, maybe a 1080.

But I saw a video where someone compared the 1070 and two 970s with sli and the two 970s were better than the 1070 so I´m not sure what I should do.

And if I would choose the 1070 which 1070 should I choose?

1070.

always go for a single powerful card.
