Would a core 2 duo work fine with a 2gb rx460 sick of buying dead used core 2 quads

At that point, you may as well, but there will be some bottlenecking present, depending on the game and resolution.

CSGO is the only one that will definitely run fine.  Doom maybe you'll get 30fps all low if you're lucky.  Same with GTA V.

 

Check r/ hardwareswap if you're in the US.  They'll practically give you a core 2.

Understood, I saw your sig.  I'm speaking in terms of putting a GPU inside.  It would've still been pretty good for a (what was considered) mid range GPU a couple of years ago.
