If you want all those nvidia things like Gsync or Shadowplay sure, otherwise I for a 290x

I'm building a new PC and I'd REALLY like it to be soon, plans were to get a 290x but apparently 6 weeks for Linus to get a non-reference 290x isn't giving me much hope. I have the money to easily get a 290x/780, given the price drop in the 780's what should I go with? CPU is going to be a 4670, no real plans on watercooling (ruling out purchasing a reference 290x and chucking on a waterblock, and probably not going to overclock my GPU either). I don't really care much for shadowplay, Gsync sounds amazing but I'm not going to get a compatible screen until they're much cheaper, mantle sounds good in theory but no one actually knows how it will perform, if there are other bottlenecks et cetera.

If you can wait for a non reference 290x, get that if not a 780 will be fine. Get a unlocked CPU to

Why should I get an unlock CPU if I don't intend on overclocking it? How do CrossFire 280x's perform compared to a 780?

It will perform better. But the higher end single card is better for various reasons:

Lower power consumption

Less heat

Expandability

After I heard the news about the $150 price drop for the 780s I was really giving it some consideration but living in Australia, even after the price drop, you're still looking at $699 minimum for a 3gb non-reference 780. But given that non-reference 290x's are so far away, I really don't know what to do. For some back story I've been using this PC for a good 3-4 years now and I'm rocking a GTX 260. Got a bunch of games I can't play until I get my new PC due to performance problems as well as the 260 not supporting DX11, I just don't want to have to wait a month and a half if not more just for the graphics card but the non-reference 290x's are probably going to perform amazingly well, and will probably be around $700 here, maybe $750.

I don't like they stole the Ghz brand from AMD, they could've called it GTX 780 Boost like the older 650Ti Boost. I'd get a 780 factory OC'ed, they are pretty cheap now.

I don't think so, because AMD uses GHZ edition branding

that's what I thought.
