I just received my new ASUS PB278Q and hooked it up. No dead pixels, but I noticed some pretty strong light bleed in the right side of the monitor. It's not overly noticeable when just browsing the internet or doing random things, but it's definitely noticeable when I'm playing video games. The blacks become almost a washed out brown on that side. Is this something I should be returning and asking for a replacement?

I'm honestly not overly familiar with monitors. This is actually the first proper monitor I bought for my pc, I always played on my 40 inch Samsung tv before now. The colors are amazing, but for the price of the monitor, I expect a little more uniformity in the lighting.

yeah that does not look good. i would return it or RMA as soon as you can. but be aware that asus monitors have a mixed QC so you might get the exact same issue on the RMA monitor

I ordered from Amazon, so luckily they have a decent return policy. Is there a better quality brand I should be looking at? I did notice in the reviews people talking about quality control issues. Like I said, I am really ignorant when it comes to monitors. I spent the last week a mess trying to decide just on this one.

Out of my price range, unfortunately. I did almost pick up the similar ASUS ROG Swift, which is around 700, but I decided I didn't need a lot of the features it had. I only have a 1070 SC, and I don't think I'll get anywhere near enough fps to make use of 144hz, and I don't play any high twitch multiplayer games. I just play rpgs mostly, sometimes fps games, but only the single player campaigns. Really the only multiplayer game I play is Team Fortress 2.

I don't know much about g-sync, I've heard it's amazing, but I don't know if I can justify spending the premium for it.

Well honestly the PB278Q is not a bad monitor it is quite good! You just got unlucky, You could get it exchanged and you'll be quite happy with it but there are other options too as mentioned.

You could do the PB279Q which is the 4K variant of what you just got.

Also there is the PG278Q which I think you mentioned above its the older model of newer PG279Q (just improvements).

The PB series is for colour accuracy so they are 100% adobe sRGB rated.

The PG series is for Gaming so it's IPS with good colour (generally) but supports higher refresh rates and G-Sync.

As for Acer they are a bit more expensive it seems for the same product more or less.

You just gotta decide whether what is more important to you, Gaming performance or Colour Accuracy.

I still think you'll be more than satisfied with the same one (just exchanging it) especially coming from a TV! :P

I do really like everything else about this monitor. The colors blow me away. I've got so many mods and an enb on Fallout 4 that I can barely get 60 fps usually. Same with Skyrim and the like. I honestly don't know how many fps I can push in other games, because I've never played on anything but a 60hz monitor.

I actually have a PB328Q coming tomorrow. I couldn't decide so I ordered them both and figured I'd return the one I didn't like, so I can look and see if that one has less backlight bleed.

I'd love to get a more expensive monitor with all the performance bells and whistles, but just can't seem to justify the price to myself, plus I just blew like 400 dollars on one of those DXRacer chairs, since my cheapo chair is falling apart.

But anyways, I did set up the return for this monitor. The box it came in had a big cut in it, too, like something had fallen on it before they packed it into the Amazon box, so I probably should return it anyways.

Well if you like it that much with the bleeding issues I'm sure you'll enjoy the PB328Q just as much. Hopefully more even! (Assuming that one is issue free! haha).

Both are solid choices for a monitor, gaming or otherwise.

I agree with not having the justification to spend a couple hundred more for G-Sync and a higher refresh rate I'm in the same boat, been wanting to upgrade my main screen but it's so hard to especially when I have other things I know I need to upgrade first. They are AMAZING features to have but they won't make or break your experience in the end.

Awesome choice of chair btw ;) I have a DXRacer myself and love it!

I got my PB328Q today. First thing I did was check for light bleed and dead pixels. I'm thinking this is worse than the other one was.

The camera actually makes it look much worse than it is. It doesn't really look this bad when I'm using the monitor. I could just adjust the brightness of the monitor to make up for the increase in glow. At least this is a little more uniform.
