Crossfire rx480s

So I'm tempted to get a pair of 480s to muck around with crossfire. 

 

I relise the scaling terrible etc but also wanting the aesthetics aswell. Was looking at a second 980ti but it would be 100% for looks as my board only supports crossfire.

 

has anyone got crossfire 400 series cards? Is there any major problems worth mentioning? Are you happy or disappointed in it then?

 

any other suggestions etc would be great thanks and yes I relise my CPU will bottleneck don't remind me ?

Just get an i5 or an i7 or something. Would yield more performance.

If it's for the sake of finding out what crossfire is like, please do go ahead and tell us. You should be able to get performance around 980 Ti level, which makes them not the best value, but perhaps if you don't like them within 30 dawns you can return them.

Yes it would be pretty much for abit of fun aswell as the looks. I guess its a pretty rare thing, probly more scarce than sli.

note that your mobo second PCI-E x16 slot is only a X4 slot

 

so CF performance may differ from a true x16 / x16 or x8 / x8 configs

Since "Crossfire" is a red marketing term, I'd like to take this opportunity to state that my only venture into SLI was the Geforce 470.

Thanks for pointing that out.. will look into that problem abit more. And currently running a nvme 950 pro aswell so I better check the i3 even has enough pcie lanes

the PCI-E lanes are split from the CPU and chipset

 

the CPU gives X16 and the chipset gives the rest

 

the NVME drive should be running from the chipset

So you think it would run in x4/x4 or x8/x4 if that's even possible?

No. SLI is the technology, scan-line interlacing, where each card forms their respective half of the frame.

I had 2 RX 480s for a couple weeks mainly to see what they were like. I experienced no problems and performance ranged from GTX 1070 level to 1080 levels. 

 

Though with your i3 and motherboard compatibility I'm not sure it's the best idea. Would look cool though, and isn't too expensive to do.

The first slot will downgrade to x8 most likely.

Yea ive been reading an aparently the rx480s run atleast 10-15% slower in 4x mode.. so running 2 in crosfire is prolly around performance of xfire 470s. Guess that'd make the i3 a lil happier

Right so if I threw an old sata ssd in I should get atleast 8x/8x ?

 

Might email asrock to find out for sure.

Your chipset offers X amount of lanes. Your CPU offers X amount of lanes. Find these out and you'll have your answer, but it's likely x8/x8 over the CPU.
