Hello,

I have been into PC Gaming for quite a bit now (approx. 2-3 years) and have various games on Steam, etc. However, I do have an Apple MacBook Pro that handles games at decent frames however I would love to play more intensive games such as DayZ, Battlefield 3 etc. at more than 10FPS (I get around 10-15FPS on DayZ currently). So basically, I would like to know if this build I am planning on would be worth it! -

Basic Components -

AMD FX 6300 6-Core @ 3.5GHz - CPU (Same price as i3 3220 but has more cores etc.)

XFX Radeon HD 7770 1GB - GPU (Was going for GTX 650 but reviews say this is better)

Kingston 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 - Memory (8GB isn't needed for much games and a bit too much money)

OS - Windows 7 64bit (Home Premium OEM)

Price - £436.80 (with all components)

Thanks,

Adam

Right - worked out the price with the 7850 and 8GB but which specific X4 would you recommend?

Cheers - worked it out with the 7850, 8GB, with a 760K and with a FM2 Motherboard (strict budget - gone over £450) for £472.45:

AMD Athlon X4 760K @ 3.8GHz - CPU

XFX Radeon HD 7850 1GB - GPU

Corsair 8GB DDR3 - Memory

@GallardoAdsy

If OS isn't counted to that price, here's a build for the same money with a 7870. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1VGJD

Edit: I don't know where you lost your budget but a 7870 fits in this budget, no problem. Did you want a SSD or do you count in the OS, or why is it, that you use a X4 and a 7850?

who cares...

Also if you are on a strict budget then maybe don't buy the windows? Maybe is better this time to download it from torrents?

Thanks man - but the OS is included so it would take me over my budget (now between probably £450 and £500) and I am trying to save some money as its only a budget build.

I aim to play DayZ and other games I couldn't play 'well' before a lot more as I will be getting better frames - I got 9/10 for the CPU, GPU and Memory on a DayZ specification checker - this build is looking pretty good!

@GallardoAdsy

go with 1x4 GB of RAM for now. Fresh systems won't utilize nearly as much. Not to mention that games won't. Add a 2nd stick once needed.

Use that money to get a better PSU, don't cheap out on this part! :D  -> Corsair CX 500M, AND 1 TB version of that drive. Running out of storage sucks, do it! :D

Edit: also Corsair RAM is 9/10 times the more expensive RAM. Kingston HyperX should sell for less.

who cares...

Well, you'll want to play battlefield 4 I take it.  So I would definitely recommend 8GB of RAM, as RAM is a help to everything especially high intense tasks. And this is going to be purely based on my slimy gross gutts, because I don't know how your currency compares.  The build I chose, is 460 euros with Windows 7 license, and 393 euros without the windows 7 license.  Have a look for yourself :)http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1VI4R

(the prices on the website are in USD and the prices I list are using a currency converter and are an approximation)

Yeah - I believe it is over my budget a bit, I am still in the process of deciding various things like Memory and the GPU as it is a budget build but thanks anyway for letting me know how to 'quote'  :)

Hi - I do think that I should spend the extra for 8GB of RAM as it is an amount you won't really need to upgrade as I don't think games will require any more (8GB for BF4 and DayZ etc.) but the build you put looks pretty good as its below budget by a lot- I will definitely keep hold of that link. Thanks! (My budget was £450 to £500 but that build is $627 which is £391)

Would dropping the cooler then make it fit the budget?

I think I am going to spend an extra £30 or so to get 8GB but someone has worked out a build with a nice PSU (Corsair 430W) which also has a 2TB 7200RPM HDD with it (with 8GB of RAM) for under my budget but thanks anyway man.

From my experience with DayZ and the beta bf4, Tho nither are optimised verry well, they both take quite the horcepower in terms of pc performance. Would it be an option to delay the build a bit an save up some extra cash waiting for more speficik reviews to better chose the hardware? I know money can be tight, but i have found my self opting for a cheaper faster solution and then regrething it a short while down the line. I need to be said that i am an audio freak an i enjoy grafic at higest quality for the emersion, that Can be expensive but perhaps you could find a middel ground. All im saying is that considder the posibility of waiting and getting a bit more power of your rig. Also dó you have a deasent monitor?

Kinds regards

/Chris

Thanks! (My budget was £450 to £500 but that build is $627 which is £391)

sweet I'll make a real gamer machine here :

(this contains much more stable and higher end components, with a massive speed increase and cost) (this build will CRUSH battlefield 4 and have super fast normal use too) I've done this to show my recommendation for a really higher end gaming system. This costs 929 euros. (its probs over budget but don't feel pressured, just say no :D )

here is the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1VRQB  Here is why I chose them:

Intel core i5 3570k - most popular gaming processor, quad core, can handle pretty much all games, can be overclocked and has Intel's big badge of stability.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - if your doing some overclocking you'll need a cooler.  This is a great cooler for the price and although it wont withstand huge overclocks it is a great way to start!

Asus P8Z77-V-LE Motherboard - the p9z77-v is the most popular gaming motherboard I know so far, its got great reviews and has all of the main features from the lineup, but takes out the not needed ones, therefore lowering the cost.

Adata XPG Gaming Series 16GB 1600mhz - 16GB might be overboard, but it allows you to create RAM disks and other things that are useful for work and video/photo editing.

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD - this wont help with fps, but loading maps, loading windows, starting applications will be pretty much as fast as a rocket with a rocket on it ;)  this can be your main boot drive and used for tons of other important things, maybe 1 or 2 main games.

Seagate Barracuda 2TB - this is a great drive for secondary storage, for installing things to, running virtual machines etc.  The best part is you can get a ton of them and just get more and more storage!

Asus Radeon r9 270x - I took a small risk here in the way of fps, its not the highest end card however is used in allot of bf4 builds, so why not! this is also quite cheap and should be able to handle things a total breeze on a single monitor 1080p.

Cooler Master CM storm enforcer case - I always recommend this. I have it and I love it! its got high end features, looks great even has a windows all for a small price.

Silverstone Strider Plus 750w 80 plus silver - I had 2 choices, lower watts, 80 plus gold, higher watts 80 plus silver, Silverstone is a great brand and with 80 plus silver it should be plenty stable, because you probably wont put it under stress. I chose this because it allows much more upgrades.

Asus DVD rw - this is a cheap thing, and is useful sometimes, so why not.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home premium OEM 64bit - Windows 7 is still my choice of OS.  May not be the fastest but you have endless possibilities!

I'm no system builder but I hope you like it :)

Also remember one thing mate, your wallet is not always right.  I did this and faced the consequences.  GTX 650, and a Faulty PSU.  So please go with at least 80 plus silver power supply 80 plus bronze if its trustworthy.  Also go for a really balanced system.

Okay, first post so be kind :P

When you say DayZ, do you mean the standalone or are you planning on playing the original mod? If so, you might want to consider an Intel chip. From personal experience, Arma 2 definitely prefers Intel CPUs - from this point of view, if that's what's important to you, go Intel.

Of course, if you're speaking about the standalone version, I have no experience with that... so I'll shut up >.>

Gaming Rig - CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k | COOLER: Stock | MOBO: Gigabye Z87 Gaming | GPU: Gigabye Geforce GTX 980 | RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 2x8GB (16GB)
