which is better amd 8350 or intel I7 6700k

Im looking to build a new Rig my current rig has an 8350 but I was wondering if i should keep what i got for now or build a rig  with a intel i7 6700k

Despite having less core and same clock speed 6700k has higely higher IPC makes it extremely more powerful than 8350

A 6700K is some 50% faster in games (really depends on settings and GPU though) and heavy multithreaded workloads, but in turn costs three times as much. So it depends on what you mean by best.

I got the money for that I just was wondering would it be best for gaming

Single core performance yeah, for rendering/any multi-core work, no.

If you're looking to upgrade I recommend waiting til Intel drops Kaby Lake cpus. Even though there's very little performance increase from skylake it might nudge the prices down for them, and if they're the same price then just get the newer ones.

 

Or wait til Zen comes out and see what it has to offer, maybe it's competitive enough to light a fire under Intel's ass and get them to do something innovative for once

I agree with inception9269. Just wait, at least wait for (Ry)Zen. Youtube is filled with a promo of AMD, beating some kind of a $1100 Intel CPU.

 

I would suggest getting "the best GPU you can get", bottleneck it with your current CPU and when Zen comes, buy a new mobo+CPU+ram if you really have them moneyz.
