2-3 seconds because while not in use I put my computer into sleep mode. Power usage is almost the same as "shut down" mode. However clean reboot is about 20 sec with anti-virus software and VPN boot times

Not sure about my boot times, but less then a minute for sure. But I almost never boot anyways, as seen in this topic:

22 days and counting till last reboot. Want to go for several months, so I am not going to test this with any kind of bloatware.

Unemployed/always at home to start with. I use it for gaming, news websites, gaining knowlage about many different things (visiting lots of different and small websites), youtube alot, looking for some X-rated stuff (think of the risk in doing that), chatting with other people, watching offline vids/movies, listning to music, using at as an alarm clock, using it as an TV with a screen + mouse in my bedroom, might want to hook it up to some speakers I have in my bathroom. (not sure about this because I have to drill a hole in a tiled wall) Sharing/editing pictures in some freeware pic editing software, converting video content from format A to format B, some minor web programming...

TLDR: my computer is my life. Turning it off is just scary.

Same with me. Stuck in Jersey by myself so my rig is essential for my sanity. I always shut mine down, paranoid i guess. And i usually have at least one rig on my bench, just in case ;)

I kept my Linux laptop uptime at six months once and only rebooted at the end for an update. That was a single core Intel atom netbook that could boot in 10 seconds with a 5400rpm hard drive. My current desktop boots in about 15  seconds which could be faster if I cut down some services. I think my macbook boots in 20 seconds but that varies because it likes to re open all the applications. My windows 8 laptop is surprisingly fast at around 22s considering its low end celeron processor and slow hard drive

In MY experience, rebooting can "break" things. And when I look at my GF, she has ample experience with that. Software working fine, after a reboot, it's not so fine. I also think that cooling off/heating up, will add more wear and tear to hardware. How many times did something work fine one day, and the next day, it was broken... (be it hardware or software)

If for example my HDD's start to fail, I will notice this, and can take action. I have had hard drives which were going to fail on me, but were still working. After trying a reboot, it would not get past the windows loading screen. So in MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, it's better for ME, not to reboot at all.

like 5 minutes or something to completely finish starting up (loading startup programs etc). the perfect time to take a dump or prep lunch.

I leave my PC on in the day and when I go to sleep I turn it off, honestly it hardly makes a difference if you only do it once in the day, while there might be some downsides in rebooting there are up sides as well, Linus even made a video about it:

It's mostly up to the person preference, and my boot time is around 7~9 seconds from clicking the power switch and having the desktop up and running fully.

Not to start an argument, but with all that starting at boot its longer than 7-9 seconds :S

There are many services you can prevent from starting up at all. This could also speed up your computer a bit. When I "tweak" my services, I take many screenshots, as a "before". Then I will look up which services are running, why they are running, how they started to run, and what they do. (google ftw me thinks) Then I go and disable all the bloatware crap, and reboot/check for problems. This can, depending on your hardware, speed up your load times. It might even save your resources for normal usage.

An (back in the days) example might be printer and fax support. The service might start up on boot, or start up on a delay. But if you won't connect any fax or printer devices, your computer does not have to wait and be ready, for when you plug one in. If you just look into this subject a bit, even a novice can find some microsoft bloatware, which can be ripped out of your OS.

Not used that tool, but on my laptop (i5 something or other) with an SSD, in UEFI mode, Windows 10 task manager reports 0.9 seconds though from power button press it's more like 1.5
