For a 1 monitor set up, use any 660ti that you like, having high ram on those them isn't really going to benefit much, since you're not running really high resolutions or a surround monitor setup.

The nice cards to look into are ones that come factor overclocked, like some Asus cards. That way you can get a little extra performance if your cousin doesn't know how to overclock cards.

Then yes, it is fine. The chips are the same, it seems to cost a bit less than the 2GB version from MSI, so yeah, go for it.

i wouldnt spend that much money on a 660ti, the 7950 has 3gb of ram on all the cards available out there, and you dont need to buy an OC or GHz edition cause they clock like a boss. In BF3 the 7950 out does the 660ti and the 670, but not too sure for any other games tho how they compare, i would imagine they would be very close. 7950 is one of the best cards for its money out there at the moment. If your gonna be doing some editing tho, and you wanna use your gpu i would then recommend the 660ti, but in general gaming use i would definitely reccomend a 7950 over a 660ti

source of benchmarks for bf3:

Almost every GTX 660 ti will be fine for gaming at 1080p. For overclocking the Asus is good but your cousin does not like Asus. So I would go with, for overclocking, a MSI Twinfrozr cooler.

Yea, MSI Afternburner is great. I use it! You do not need a MSI GPU butI believe it will help if the card is MSI. Overclocking is great on the twinfrozr, hoped this helped!

I'd go with either the Twin Frozr or the new Sapphire Dual-X .

Both are great overclockers and have identically good coolers, it's a matter of which company he is more comfortable with MSI or Sapphire.
