I just recently bought a CODE keyboard from WASDKeyboards, and I love the keyboard, but i have a set of PBT Backlit caps that I want to install, but i would like to clean them first. What is the best method for cleaning keycaps? Anything you do personally? Do I need to do something special to PBT caps?

Usually it's best to take the keys off and put them in a container with some warm soapy water and give them a light scrub. If the key caps are not UV coated I have used a very mild isopropyl and water solution to give them an intermittent wipe down but only if they are not coated or it can damage the coating on them.

Best method is generally to use denture tablets as they don't require you to abrasively rub the caps and it will get most residue off without damaging anything.

Put them into something long enough to space out all the keycaps, and deep enough to fully submerge them (certain tupperware or baking dishes should work fine.) Follow the directions for the tablets, and let them do their magic.

Drying them is best done with a hair dryer on a lower setting after you spread them out over a towel. Drying by hand is a nightmare given all the contours and crevices.

EDIT - I will note however, that I have not tried this method with backlit keycaps. I do own some, but haven't had to clean them yet as I don't use the backlit board at all. I only say this because different companies use different methods to achieve the backlit portion, so mileage may vary. However, for my 8 sets of PBT and 3 other ABS sets, the above method works wonderfully.

Might not hurt to make an account on geekhack.org to ask some of the more experienced members there. I very much imagine they will give my answer or W-L's answer though.
