CD Drive Failure

Go to solution Solved by soup,

What OS are you running?

Windows removed playback of Video DVDs using WMP, (data ones are still fine) in Win 8 and 10, due to having to pay a licensing fee for every system capable of DVD playback.

You will need a Video player (VLC is reccomended)

Only ever used my cd drive to install drivers and what not up until today. Tried playing a movie and I get and application error. Ive tried uninstalling, reinstalling and updating the driver along with a few other random things. Either way I cant get it to stop saying there is an application error and im now lost on what to try next.

i7 4790K @4.7GHz; MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition; Klevv Neo 4x4Gb 2400Mhz; PNY GeForce GTX 980; Crucial M500 240GB SSD; Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD; Corsair RM750; NZXT Kraken X61

I have tried VLC, and it wont even show it in Windows Media Player.

VLC is a standalone it doesn't use WMP at all

Yeah, apparently my computer hates me is all. I went back and checked just to be sure and vlc was partially deleted but still showing up as a program. So reinstalled and it works now lol #FacePalm
