Upgrading my RAM from 8GB

Naimdor

HI!

I build my computer two and a half years ago.

Intel Quad Core i5 4670K 3.4Ghz S1150
MSI Z87-G45 GAMING
8GB (2x4GB) Crucial Balistix Sport DDR3 CL9 1600Mhz
Sapphire R9 290 TRI-X 4G OC DDR5 + BF4
SSD Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SATA III
Seagate 2T 3.5'' Sata3 Barracuda 3 Years Warranty
Fractal Design Define R4 White
SeaSonic S12II-620 620W
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
DELL 23'' U2312HM ULTRA Sharp IPS , PIVOT

I want to upgrade my ram to 16 gigs.

should i buy another 2x4GB? or one stick of 8GB? or 2 sticks of 8GB and remove my old ram?

which is the best option? of course the first is the cheapest, but will it work just fine?

Will it be ok if i'll buy somthing like this  -  https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-PC3-12800-240-Pin-BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00/dp/B006YG9EEW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1482147621&sr=1-2&keywords=16gb+DDr3

and just add this to my exsisting ram? so ill have 2 sticks of 4 and two sticks of 8.

Thanks!

Any of those work, but you probably won't need more than 16GBs. Just get another 2x4.

Get the 2x4 fot the dual channel and quad channel to work properly. Also some mobos become picky if you install 8gb sticks with 4gb sticks so go with the 4gb sticks to be safe

Add another 4x2 of the same type. Make sure the Cas timings are the same as the ones on your current ram, you can check it on the box or in bios.

Your best option is either the 2x 4Gig (cheapest) or 2x 8Gig. The single 8Gig is not a good idea - it would screw up the dual-channel RAM access.

Just get 2x 4Gigs of ordinary DDR3-1600. Timings shouldn't be a big problem. If the new RAM has different timings, put the RAM with the slowest timings in the 'primary' RAM slots (so the system will run all the RAM at those timings).

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD
