Will 4+4+8+8 work for ram?

What does it mean (the first bullet point)?

You can mix size for each channel (with A1 and B1 being a dual-channel 1).

 

If you were to mix a 4GB and 8GB into the slots (A1 and B1), you will run 8GB in dual channel with the remaining 4GB being single-channel. Same for slots A2 and B2. This is quite common on Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX boards with 2 slots vs 4.

 

If you were to place the 8GB sticks into A1 and B1 alongside the 4GB sticks in A2 and B2, you will be in dual-channel for both.

Right now I have a 4GB+4GB kit installed, with two slots left over. Would it work if instead of replacing my current kit, I simply got a 2x8 kit and put it in the remaining two slots for a total of 24GB?

Yes. You can. They will run at the slowest speed and CAS, but it will work. Also, make sure you install the RAM 4+8+4+8 to ensure that dual-channel runs optimally.

It will run dual channel if the sticks are in the appropriate slots. They just need to be the same size to work.
