Thermal Tape on GPU VRM

So I installed a GPU cooler onto my RX 480 and noticed that there was no dedicated cooling for the VRM, however I do have some thermal tape.

I was wondering whether I should apply it to the VRM, however a part of me is apprehensive. If I put thermal tape without a heatsink will it actually improve or worsen my GPU's VRM temp?

What cooler?

Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo ii, I'm moving it from old graphics card to my current one and can't find a heatsink that will stay attached to my VRM

Use some small VRM/vRAM heatsinks, you can get them on ebay for pretty cheap
