So, I am upgrading from an XFX R9 270X which I am planning on selling. I am actually wondering if I got a different card that I thought I was. I have been using the card for tripple 1080 gamming in Need For speed, Rocket League, and Dirt 3 at max settings and get at least 30fps if not 60. Now that I hear about all the new cards, i'm wondering if my 270X is supposed to perform this good?

This was a great answer and no, this way definitely not. But the way you bring GTA 5 into the mix makes be dubious.

And I'd like to remind you that as the trend seems to be, the 480 will be a better card.

I brought up GTA V, because it is a very popular game and a personal favourite of mine... The trend seems to be that the 480 is a better card, yes, it is more "Futureproof", as more games are starting to use DX12. That doesn't make it a better card though, it all comes down to the games that you are playing! I mean, the 1060 gets its ass headed to it in Doom, but so does the 480 in overwatch...

When deciding between the two, it's best to just find benchmarks for the games that you are playing and decide. You can't go wrong with any of them!

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

Mice: Logitech G Pro X Superlight (main), Logitech G Pro Wireless, Razer Viper Ultimate, Zowie S1 Divina Blue, Zowie FK1-B Divina Blue, Logitech G Pro (3366 sensor), Glorious Model O, Razer Viper Mini, Logitech G305, Logitech G502, Logitech G402

That's exactly what I am saying, but you can't dismiss the fact, that you will use the card to play future games as well. This should be accounted for.

For fucks sake, the conclusion is the part where he shows every game on the same slide, watch the video before trying to sound smart.

I'm not trying to sound smart. I don't know if it's just me but when I look at the individual benchmarks the 1060 is usually 3-10 fps faster in most games excluding Vulkan games where the 1060 is demolished and DX12 games where the 480 is also ahead. An extra 5 fps is a lot imo.

Yes.... But, games will continue to have poor DX12 support in 2017 as those games are usually made in DX11 and then ported to DX12. If you plan on keeping your GPU for nearly 2 years, then the RX 480 is definitely a better choice. If you will keep your GPU for a year or so, the 1060 might be more worth it, as games will continue to use DX11 and when using DX11, the 1060 does seem to edge out the 480 with DX12 (BF1 for example)

Yes, extra 5 is significant, thankfully these two cards are separated by only 1%, which is usually less than 1 fps.
