I recently had a lot of issues with my new hard drive being slow as outlined here.

But sadly when i got the drive back no change still just as slow and now i cant even download anything on the drive, could i have a bad cable or is HGST shit? here is the crystaldiskmark results to back it up  https://gyazo.com/edbbc5bf2d8537af00f611e13a721c9b

i hit W and it opens network connections for some reason

Windows button + X should open CMD. Idk why you are hitting W. That drive should not be THAT slow but it is an NAS drive made by a not so well used company. I also read terrible reviews on almost every site they are on about failure and multiple DOA in a row. Might recommend returning it and buying a different drive.

HGST is also known as Hitachi, a subsidiary (or daughter company) of Western Digital. Carry on as it seems Vortical has an idea.

Idk, I just read an aweful lot of multiple DOA in a row(which you could have run into) and crap reliability(stuff like dying after 4 months of use). Try other sata ports to see if its just a bad port, and like you said maybe try a different cable, I don't think that will make much difference.

Try different SATA cables.  I had shitty ebay ones that wouldn't work at Sata 3 and only connected Sata 2.  May not matter for a mechanical drive but it does prove false that "all sata cables are the same".

Like what @ARikozuM said, they are a sub of WD, but there is a reason why its not labeled as just WD imo. Having worked in IT and put together tons of NAS systems and large scale deployment junk, its not uncommon to get multiple dead drives in a row. Not fun and it really does suck. But it happens.

However I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that have had good experiences with them. It goes both ways with pretty much everything.

I find they're slightly less reliable than WD Red Pros in my storage sesrver.  24 drives gives me pretty good sample size.  Ultrastars and Deskstar (NAS) drives seem about the same in terms of likelihood to fail.  I've had Red Pros fail too but seems to be less frequently.

I have the same luck, after awhile I only buy WD red for my NAS's. No reason to even waist time on anything else.

They don't test every drive conceivable, it just isn't possible to do so. Also, are you using the drive GPT or MBR?
