Problems been resolved, it was a bad batch. By this is mean the cards that were exploding, catching fire were presumed to have bad capacitors on them affecting 0.02% of cards produced that use the ACX 3.0 cooling. Yes the temperatures are high due to no thermal pads but after November the 1st they shipped updated cards with a new vbios and now thermal pads on the card. They operate fine at a high temperature regardless. There is no longer a issue just ask your store if they are the new cards and you will be fine.   :) Your system will be good for a 1080 so no issues there.

As said above, you're probably fine. If you don't order directly from evga  however, I would verify the bios version and make sure there are thermal pads.

It's good to order. The cards are fine. Even if you overclocked this card and blew hot air onto it, it will still be fine. Go ahead and enjoy it dude.

Yes it did matter, the reason why (besides the capacitors) is because the VRMs and VRAM modules were not getting sufficent cooling, so it doesn't matter what your temp is, they were getting really hot.
