cpu adapter

hello, im looking for someone with some experience with cpu adapters.

i'm trying to make a budget build and i've found a lga771 socket cpu but a lot of those are sold woth adapters to make it a lga775 compatible cpu.

 

so i wonder will it work and if so will the cpu work at its full potential without risk of shorting or something like that.

771 to 775 works fine, it's the same architecture and everything but a slightly different pinout.

This is a recently superceded standard. Instead of an adapter I'd be looking for secondhand server tech. They usually go really cheap, and if you've got a cpu that hasn't been used and abused to plug in, it's a good deal.
